If you don’t have any experience in scuba diving, you can always opt for skin diving. You have to hold onto your breath while diving close to the aquatic life. It is great for you and your kids during the holidays. The best part is for skin diving you won’t need much equipment. So, it is a convenient fun activity during the vacations and on the go.
But before you enlist “skin dive” into your holiday schedule, you should maintain the safety tips. It will ensure that you have lot more fun.
1. Suitable Exposure Protection During Skin Diving
In cold water, wetsuits are the best options for divers. However, these suits also protect the diver from getting skin burn while on the surface. If you are not wearing a wetsuit, at least go for a rash vest or t-shirt. No matter how cold or warm the water is you should wear them from getting skin-burn.
2. Keep A Distance From Aquatic Life
Many scuba divers know that while going underwater, you should leave the lives underwater alone. It is not a piece of advice only for scuba divers, but also for skin divers. You will feel excited to discover underwater flora and fauna. But these creatures can feel stressed if you get too close to them. Never go close to marine life as you might be interrupting their mating or feeding schedules. You might put yourself at the risk if they become aggressive. You can see them from distance but don’t try to touch them.
3. Follow The Buddy System During Skin Diving
While you are taking the dive holding your breath, make groups in pairs. One person must watch above the surface while another dives under the surface. This ensures a safe hand. If there is someone on the surface, he or she can lend help in case of difficulties underwater. For example, if the diver underwater, blackouts or get entangled, another one can come to the rescue. You may travel alone, but for skin diving, join a group and get your buddy.
4. Know The Area First
During diving, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with your area first. It is for both scuba and skin diving. The weather of your home or locality might differ a lot. You should pay complete attention to the tides and currents. These currents and tides can make your swimming a bit difficult. Not only that, you must check out your entry and exit points for safety purpose.
5. Learn To Equalize Ears
Do you know that a skin diver must equalize his or her ears for diving? You must prevent ear damage. It is important when the water pressure at the depth is too high. You can equalize the water pressures on your ears. Just pinch your nose and blow slightly. You will start to feel your ears clear, and the pressure is subsiding. Any time you can return to the surface if you feel any type of discomfort. You should not stay underwater if you feel the discomfort at any time. Return to the surface quickly, and don’t force the ears to equalize themselves. It can spoil the rest of the days left for your vacation.
